Canadian Pest control Cockroach Treatment Checklist

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are a common issue throughout the world. Like other infestations, mice, bed bugs and other rodents and insects are a burden on those they infest. Getting rid of them is very difficult and often requires professional treatment. Trying to get rid of them on your own can be difficult as there is no clear and concise treatment.

Cockroach species

Cockroaches come from many different places and have many different species. American cockroaches and Brown Banded cockroaches are native to North America from Mexico to Canada and also in South America. There are also invasive species of cockroaches like the Oriental cockroaches which arrived on ships from Asia and German cockroaches which arrived on ships from Europe. German cockroaches are one of the most difficult species to treat as they are smaller and can have ten times as many babies as other species of cockroach. This makes them a serious infestation common to apartment buildings.

Cockroach dangers

Cockroaches are a serious health hazard and having them in your home can cause severe illness. They travel in sewers and are coated in human waste. They shed and moult constantly and that material can float in the air and be inhaled. This can cause serious respiratory infections and worsen preexisting conditions.

Domestic treatments are rarely effective, the reason for this is they do not deal with the entire population of the infestation. While it may kill the adult cockroaches it may not affect the egg sacks or the infant cockroaches.

Cockroach domestic treatment

The most common treatment to deal with cockroaches using domestic products and home remedies is gel bait, insecticide dust and store-bought pesticides like permethrin. These are all very powerful ways of dealing with insects but lack commercial-grade ingredients. The potency is lower which means you will have to do more applications and in the case of a severe infestation it may not work at all. Home remedies are often based on old-fashioned ideas that often have no basis in reality like using essential oils to treat mice. There is no scientific backing and as such, it may not work at all. Wasting time on treatments like these can worsen an infestation by allowing it to continue.

Cockroach commercial treatment

A professional treatment is not only backed by scientific evidence but created by science entirely. There is only fact and research and testing when it comes to professional treatment. There is no hearsay involved. This is why a commercial treatment works and why domestic treatments often fail. Commercial treatments use chemicals that cannot be purchased over the counter and require a license to even possess. Using them requires strict training and understanding and even involves some mathematics, especially regarding the application of pesticides.

Preparation for commercial Cockroach treatment.

If you are getting a pesticide treatment for a cockroach infestation the company will give you instructions on how to prepare your home. The preparation is simple but arduous. You must clear out everything in your kitchen that is not in a refrigerator. That includes plates, dry foods, pots and pans and cutlery and anything else in your kitchen as well as your bathroom.
