A cockroach infestation is a serious problem. Treating it is very important and the price can vary based on the type of treatment you use.
Cockroach history
Cockroaches have been around for millions of years. They were around when the dinosaurs existed and survived multiple extinction events after that as well as the ice age. While they are tropical insects the cold only affects them when it drops below zero. At zero they have trouble mating and reproducing but they do not die from the cold until it gets lower than seventeen or eighteen degrees celsius in the negative. This is important as you cannot kill cockroaches in your home by turning off the heat.
Cockroach dangers
Cockroaches are a danger. They are a danger to your health and the well-being of your home. They can cause damage to your home by infesting it, tracking dangerous germs and bringing in viruses and even parasites. They are coated in human faces meaning they can cause illnesses like staph infections just by being present in a house. What is worse is their carapaces moults throughout their lives and flake off. These flakes can float in the air and be inhaled causing severe respiratory illness and worsening illnesses like asthma.
Cockroach infestation
There are many ways to treat cockroaches and the treatments you use depend on both the species and the severity of the infestation. If the infestation is not significant then you may be able to get away with domestic treatment. If the species is Native like the American cockroach or the brown-banded one a domestic treatment may work if the infestation is new. If you have a species like the German cockroach then you may need professional treatment.
Domestic cockroach treatments
Domestic treatments often involve three simple chemicals which are safe for humans but deadly to cockroaches. Insecticide dust is always the primary choice to start the process of control then gel bait can be used to kill the cockroaches and a domestic pesticide like permethrin can be used to further kill off the population. Dust can be used in tight areas like wall voids and behind appliances and can even be puffed into cracks, crevices, and appliance motors. Permethrin is a spray which can be applied to walls and baseboards. Gel bait should be placed on the ground in kitchens and bathrooms in areas the cockroaches frequent.
Commercial cockroach treatments
If you have tried a domestic treatment but it has not worked then you need to get a professional treatment done. They are more expensive but worth it. This is where the money comes in. You can hire a cheaper technician to do a treatment with less effective chemicals but they may not work. If they don’t give you a warranty you will have to pay again. The best option is to get a treatment done by a mid-range or a premium company that charges more, offers warranties and uses high-end and high-quality pesticides. The price of the treatment has a lot to do with the success of the treatment.
