Yellowjackets are the most aggressive wasp in the wasp genus. They are a physical danger to you, your family, and your pets. Children are especially endangered by the presence of even non-aggressive wasps as they are curious and will try to touch the wasp, which will always result in a sting so it is very important to get rid of any wasps on your property.
It is best to contact Wasp Control Oshawa in the Greater Toronto Area to declare your home rat-free as soon as possible!
The yellowjacket nest starts its life as a queen who was born in the previous fall, mated and is filled with eggs, and has been sleeping under bark on a tree for the past six months. It’s spring and the weather is finally warm. The yellowjacket queen crawls out of her hibernation hole and searches for a place to start a new nest, they also may revitalize an old nest, especially one they were born in. The queen will lay eggs and do all the work of the worker wasp for a full three weeks. This is a great chance to find the queen and give her a good spray with insecticide or soapy water. It will kill her, the larva will die, unfed and you will have stopped the nest in its tracks. Sadly this is not easy and most of the time you only realize you have a nest when it’s too late and the summer has already started. As the summer wanes the wasps will get more aggressive. With no larva to raise and no need to build up the nest, the wasps are ready for something sweet and that means attacking you and your food whenever you bring it outside. This can be a nightmare and ruin your social life as no one will come to your property. So make sure that if you have yellowjackets on your property, to find the nest by following the wasps as they gather food. You will eventually find the nest and then you can kill it with a large amount of insecticide. If you can’t find it try calling a professional. When the fall comes the female sterile workers start to die off. The queen lays eggs of male and female queens that can mate. They do so and the males die and the females leave to hibernate for the winter. As the last frost hits the old queen dies and the nest falls empty. But new life is ready to start again come the spring.
